what is engineering | engineering

Engineering is the application of practical knowledge in order to build and maintain systems. Engineering has existed since as human invented pulley, lever and wheel.

Engineering combines the fields of science and math to solve real world problems that improve the world around us. An engineer has ability to implement ideas in cost effective and practical approach. This ability takes a thought or an abstract idea and translates it into reality. This separates an engineer from other fields of science and mathematics.

Let see the following things you have used and take for granted everyday:

  • Buildings
  • Roads and bridges
  • Vehicles, including cars, planes and boats
  • Computers and electronic devices
  • Sewerage system
Not a single one of these would be found without engineers.
Engineering like other science, is a very broad discipline which is often broken down into several sub-disciplines.
These disciplines concern themselves with differing areas of work of engineering. Initially an engineer can usually be trained in a specific discipline, throughout an engineer's career .
And man many more.
Engineers use mathematical & scientific knowledge to find suitable solution for a problem.
Creating an appropriate mathematical model of problem allows them to analyze it and discover efficient solutions for their problems. Usually multiple reasonable solutions be found, so engineers had to assess the different design choices on their merits and chose the solution which is best.
We are in a modern world where computers and software’s play an increasingly necessary role. Computers can be used to produce model of fundamental physical processes, which can be solved using numerical method.
